Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Are there fees attached to counseling sessions, and what if I'm on a tight budget?

A: Family Life Counseling Center has counseling available for any budget. Please view our Sessions & Fees page for details on the financial part of therapy.

Q: How long do I have to wait for an appointment?

A: Typically it depends on the amount of clients coming in and can change during certain major holidays and the beginning of the year when we see a large number of new patients.  The front office will have the most precise timeline.

Q: What if I need an evening appointment?

A: In addition to daytime appointments, Family Life Counseling Center has counselors who accept evening appointments five days a week and have weekend appts available also.

Q: How often and how long do we come for our appointments?

A: Generally, appointments are scheduled once a week for about an hour or a length of time determined by the client and therapist on an individual case-by-case basis. As progress is made, therapy sessions are extended to bi-weekly, monthly, or quarterly. It is important to maintain bi-annual or annual sessions, similar to physical checkups one would have with their medical physician.

Q: If we are seeking marital counseling and my spouse won't come with me, can I have a session by myself?

A: Absolutely. Sometimes marital counseling clients have sessions by themselves for individual counseling and work towards counseling sessions together with their spouse at the appropriate time. Others prefer to meet together for all sessions. There is no right and wrong here. It's simply a matter of preference or individual circumstances.

Q: I have legal guardianship of children who need counseling. How do I go about this?

A: Make sure to bring the court order granting you guardianship and identification to your first appointment.

Q: How do I know if the therapists will work with my issues?

A: We have several therapists in order to work with every issue. In addition, you may call the office to schedule a phone consultation to speak to a therapist prior to your first appointment.

Q: Can I pay for someone else's appointment?

A: Yes. If the client(s) agree, they may sign a release that allows us to bill a third party on their behalf.

Q: Do you accept insurance?

A: We currently accept Aetna, ChampVA, Cigna, Tri-Care, Humana Military, Sunshine, CMS/Pedicare.  Please view our "Sessions & Fees" page for more details.
A:  We also will collaborate with other insurances such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, to establish a Single-Case Agreement.  This allows us to bill a client's insurance at the "in-network" rate.

Q: What forms of payment can I use?

A: You may pay using cash, check, debit card, or credit card Discover™, VISA™, and MasterCard™.  We also accept FSA and HSA cards with a Visa or MasterCard logo.

Q: How do I get there?

A: Family Life Counseling Center has six (6) convenient locations in Central Florida (Auburndale, Clermont, Citrus Tower studio, Lakeland, Tavares Annex, & Tavares).  See our Contact Us page for a map and directions.
